The Internship Programme

A week before Christmas another group of interns successfully finished their fifteen-week internship in Edinburgh. The eighteen students spent the last ten weeks at the Scottish Parliament working on research projects with MSPs. The 'graduation ceremony', a jolly and informal gathering, took place at St Cecilia's Hall, the Unjversity's music department showpiece (note the magnificent organ in the background). At this farewell reception, MSPs Frank McAveety, Shiona Baird, Bill Aitken, Margaret Jamieson and Jamie Stone were full of praise for the sterling work the interns had accomplished at the Parliament. They had also brought their enthusiasm, their outside perspective and international experience to the Parliament and, as Paddy Bort, the Academic Director of the Programme, quipped, surely been bitten by the Scottish politics bug. The Institute's Director, Professor David McCrone, hoped the interns would stay in touch and thanked the MSPs, but also the staff at the Institute of Governance, and in particular Lindsay Adams and Margaret MacPherson, for their vital contribution to the Programme's ongoing success.

The next group of interns is due to arrive in Edinburgh in mid-January.
