The Institute coordinated a major five year research programme (1999-2005) into national identity and constitutional change, The Nations and Regions Research Programme. The programme was funded by the Leverhulme Trust.
The trust also funded the follow up study National Identity, Citizenship and Social Inclusion 2006-2011.
