TONY TRAVERS, Head of the Greater London Group at the LSE, will be visiting
Edinburgh Tuesday, 8th December to discuss the benefits and problems arising
from Westminster's devolution of powers to Greater London. This informal
seminar format will allow ample time to discuss the implications of London's
experience for Scotland.
TIME: 4 p.m. Tuesday, 8th December

TONY TRAVERS directs LSE London, which concentrates on the complex problems
of governing the Greater London area. His key research interests include
local and regional government and public service reform. He is currently an
advisor to the House of Commons Children, Schools and Families Select
Committee and the Communities and Local Government Select Committee. He is
a board member of the Centre for Cities and an honorary Member of the
Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy. He has been a Senior
Associate of the Kings Fund, a member of the Audit Commission and of the
Urban Task Force Working Group on Finance.
Travers has published a number of books on cities and government,
including Failure in British Government The Politics of the Poll Tax
(with David Butler and Andrew Adonis), Paying for Health, Education and
Housing: How does the Centre Pull the Purse Strings (with Howard Glennerster
and John Hills); and The Politics of London: Governing the Ungovernable
City.
